Coface appoints Carlos Casanova as Economist for Asia Pacific Region

Coface has appointed Carlos Casanova as the Economist for the Asia Pacific Region effective from 15 May. Carlos is based in Hong Kong. The appointment underscores Coface’s local expertise on macroeconomic research and trade risks.

 

With solid training in quantitative and qualitative methodologies to build forecasts and conduct macroeconomic analysis, Carlos will manage our coverage on issues related to economic and geopolitical changes in the region.

 

Prior to joining Coface, Carlos worked as an Economist for the Spanish multinational banking group Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) in Hong Kong, and the European Commission in Beijing.

 

His work has featured in a range of reputable academic journals, published by Elsevier, Emerald and Routledge. He also appears regularly in interviews with international media outlets such as Bloomberg TV, Deutsche Welle, Nikkei Asian Review and the Spanish newspaper El Pais. 

 

Carlos holds an MA in International Economics from the Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and a BA Joint Honours from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). He speaks Mandarin Chinese, English and Spanish fluently.
